  • [Thesis Workshop : Session 4]DTM 3rd batch students aiming to quality master research within the program, had the third thesis Workshop. Professor Okseon Lee(Professor in Physical Education of Seoul National University) gave a lecture about Qualitative Research Methods.Date: February 16th, 2016Venue: Seoul National University Building 153 Room 411Prof. Okseon LEE gave a lecture about the methods of qualitative research. She not only gave the lecture but also gave out several activity to derive research questions from the students.Professor delievering "Qulitative research is an inquiry process of understanding based on distinct methodological traditions of inquiry that explore social or human problem. The researcher builds a complex, holistic picture, analyzes words, reports detailed views of informants, and conducts the study in a natural setting."(Creswell, 1998, p.15)Students concentrating on Professor's lecture.Prof. Okseon mentioned that researcher should plan for protecting him/herself when data collection break his/her heart. Researcher's stance is on Time, Patience and Persistance.Professor emphasized "Write promptly". The writing of field notes takes personal disciplines and time.(Lofland, 1971, p.104).

  • Abhishek(Indian Student), awarded Commendation in Development of Taekwondo
  • Abhishek Dubey (DTM student from India) was honored with the Letter of Commendation by the KUKKIWON (World taekwondo Headquarters) in Seoul. The Commendation was awarded in recognition of his contribution in development and dissemination of Taekwondo. Kukkiwon recognized his efforts in the field of Coaching and producing medalists from a developing nation of India. The athletes bagged medals at Korea Open International Taekwondo championship in 2015, South Korea as well as The Commonwealth Taekwondo championships 2014 in Scotland.

  • [Special Lecture] Mr. Jae-min PARK
  • A special Lecture was held on February 4th, 2016 at Seoul National University Building 152 Seminar Room. Mr. Jae-min PARK gave a lecture about the present overall sports Marketing and new business power of sports marketing. From this lecture, students had an opportunity to understand the mission of sport business and the role of sport administrators in the global sport industry.Speaker: Mr. Jae-min PARK (Director of the Sport Event and Athlete Management in Galaxia SM)Date: February 4th, 2016Title: "Direction and Leadership in the Global Sport Industry"Mr. Jae-min PARK starting his lecture by introducing himself.Ms. Yeseul CHO our DTM staff was an interpreter in this lecture. She made the lecture easier and understandable.Mr. Jae-min mentioned that sport is exporting a lot of own creation program and new complex of cultural festivals. The next agenda of Sports Marketing would be focusing on the value of diversity aport from competition(custom).   • [Thesis Workshop Session 3] Prof. Kihan KIM
  • [Thesis Workshop : Session 3]DTM 3rd batch students aiming to quality master research within the program, had the third thesis Workshop. Professor Kihan KIM gave a lecture about Guidlines for Thesis Binding and Printing.Date: February 1st, 2016Venue: Seoul National University Building 153 Room 411 In the beginning, professor Kihan KIM gave a general guidelines for thesis layout, and few students asked questions to make sure what they understood.Students showing satisfaction about the detailed format of thesis binding. From the size of the title margins to the referencing with APA style, professor Kihan KIM tried to explain all of his knowledge about the format. Students focusing on professor Kihan KIM. Finishing a thesis is often a last-minute project. Sometimes students even submit their files at night before the deadline. Professor gave ample experience this day. He did not swamp students with difficult technics, but come up with solutions.

  • 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Preparation Experience
  • 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Preparation Experience - Class of 2017 January 25 - 27, 2016 Day 1 DTM Class of 2017 students started an exciting journey by visiting the Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangwon province. At the arena, the students got explanation on how the venue will be used at the Olympic and tried how to ice skate. Then, the class took the road to go to the main destination, the Alpensia Resort where the Winter Olympics will be done in 2018.At the resort, the students got chance to meet the venues & facilities planning department director of the PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee, Ms. Yae-sung Lim, who gave an insightful view of how the Organizing Committee is preparing for upcoming important events.Day 2The second day brought another new experience for the majority of the students, ski. With all the equipment and the enthusiasm, the students started climbing the hill with the help of the great instructors at the place. The class had so much fun learning ski although many of them fell down several times. It was a day of excitment and enjoyment. Day 3The DTM group enjoyed the PyeongChang facility experience third day. We had opportunity to see national ski jump athletes practicing, which provided a lot of fun for this diverse group that had never enjoyed the winter as much as those three days. Students jumping with excitement to reach their dream.

  • [Thesis Workshop : Session 2]DTM 3rd batch students aiming to quality master research within the program, had the second thesis Workshop. Professor Choong Hoon LIM gave a lecture about Creation of Research Questions.Date: January 18th, 2016Venue: Seoul National University Building 153 Room 411Professor starting with a question "What do you think is the best approach to coming up with a research topic: Existing literature, social concerns, popular issues, personal background, brainstorming, or talking with professors and practitioners?"Professor explaining the initial steps of research process.Students learning how the structure of thesis is.Professor explaining to conduct a thorough literature review. Critically reading, evaluating and organizing existing literature on a problem in order to assess the state of knowledge in the chosen area.In the end of the lecture, professor emphasized that the objectivity is the most important part in Result section, use table and figures of your data analysis.

  • [Special Lecture] Prof. Young Il NA
  • A special Lecture was held on January 14th, 2016 at Seoul National University Building 152 Seminar Room. Professor Young Il NA gave a lecture about the Korean Sport History from the beginning to the contemporary sport which had been a great progress. From this lecture, students had an opportunity to understand the outcomes and developments of the Korean history. This will enable them not only to understand better with the current situations that their countries are facing, but also to promote development in their sport system for the future. Speaker : Prof. Young Il NA (President of the Korea Society for History of Physical Education, Sport & Dance / Professor in Physical Education of Seoul National University)Date: January 14th, 2016Title: "Korean Sport History and Civic Movement" Professor introducing his lecture by saying that Korea has 5,000 years of history, geographically affected by China and Japan, hisorically Korea was colonized by Japan from 1910 to 1945 then had Korean war from 1950 to 1953. Professor sharing his knowledge with DTM students. Korean history begins with the founding of Gojoseon in BC 2333. Then three kingdoms (Gogurueo, Baekje, Silla) follows the history. Every military man had to attend the horseback archery and shoot the scarecrow.From Muyedobotongji(무예도보통지 1790) which is a comprehensive illustrated manual of martial arts and Korean games like ssireum(씨름) and swing(그네뛰기), Physical Education of Korea officially announced in February 1895 by King Gojong(1852-1919). Professor also said that the annexation of Korea and Japan is historically meaningful. More than two million Koreans were killed during the strives to gain independence. Korean medalists during 1932 LA Olympics and 1936 Berlin Olympics had to us Japanese names and flags. Eventhough after independence of Korea, South Korea was controlled by US military government regime. Korea didn't stop to develop, one of the effort was Korea Sports Council trying to join IOC. Finally, on 1947 KOC was approved by IOC. It was the only one case that IOC apporved a nation officially not exist because officially the Rep. of Korea was born on August 15th, 1948. Professor brought datas of each country of the DTM students and said it is possible for them to develop their country.   • [Thesis Workshop : Session 1]DTM 3rd batch students aiming to quality master research within the program, had the first Thesis Workshop. Before session 1, students had orientation with Director Kihan Kim and students were introduced to their tutors along with advisors. Professor Il Hyeok Park then gave a lecture about SPSS and researching.Date: January 13th, 2016Venue: Seoul National University Building 153 Room 101Professor and students starting with how to use SPSS program.Students concentrating on the lecture.Professor PARK explaining.Students were getting closer to the answer.Students revising their studies during the break time.

  • [Special Lecture] Prof. Paul Pedersen & Michael Willett
  • Prof. Paul Pedersen & Michael Willett's special lecture was held on January 04th, 2016 at Seoul National University Building 152 Seminar Room. In Prof. Paul Pedersen's lecture, he talked about the sturcture, administration, and issues of intercollegiate athletics. In Prof. Michael Willett's lecture, he talked about the economic impact of professional sports leagues in the United States. There was an active Q&A session by the DTM students. These students have fulfilled all requirements for graduation and is scheduled to graduate from Seoul National University with a Master's degree in Sport Management in August 2016. They have had to accomplish a great deal over the past 16 months to arrive the moment. Gazing backwards to the past, there was a long and challenging pathway that has led to this day. The students know that each other is the most precious gifts that they will carry away from Korea, and the knowledge they have gained from the lectures, the friendships and networks they have created will become assets in their future careers and lives.
