Surviving COVID-19: What we did, and what we will continue to do.

The rapid spread of COVID-19 since early February of 2020 raised concerns in how to continue with daily life amid the uncertain characteristics of the virus, but the Dream Together Master Program persisted to provide instruction to students.

Despite the setback of having to postpone the start of the new school semester for two weeks, the Dream Together Master faculty and staff carefully but quickly responded to the pandemic, giving priority to our students in feeling safe as they were far from home.

Classes turned to online platforms when resuming the school semester, and extra-curricular programs such as special lectures also resorted to online measures.

When offline testing was required such as to take the thesis qualification examination, the DTM program followed the policy of the government in social distancing by checking body temperatures and sanitizing classrooms.

Masks as well as hand sanitizers were regularly distributed to students, and students were immediately updated regarding new COVID-19 regulations and confirmed cases on campus, encouraging students to be cautious.

DTM is also preparing to admit and welcome the incoming 8th batch by checking government regulations for air travel and self-quarantine to continue with the mission of promoting sport development.

DTM commits to their mission of promoting sport development by fostering next-generation sport administrations because we believe that sport administrators are now more essential than ever as the limitation and lack of sport activities are proving to physically and mentally stress those in social isolation.  DTM will continue to educate future sport administrators, and together we will survive COVID-19.

Sport Values-Based Coaching Methodology – Football 4 Peace Plays A Significant Role in Promoting Peace in the Communities

Six Dream Together Master 5th batch students Gobinath Sivarajah, Rijki Kurniawan, John Monyo, Nicholas Chipeta, Ali Hussien, and David Hodgson participated in ‘Football 4 Peace’ – F4P training camp hosted by Football 4 Peace Korea and Korean Sharing Movement from August 9th to 12th 2018 at Seoul National University. The F4P is not only a sports skill and technical knowledge enhancement program but also a methodology session which teaches values-based sport coaching through the medium of football. F4P aims to promote positive values associated with good citizenship and focuses on promoting the values of equity, inclusion, trust, responsibility, and respect through football.

During the camp, the F4P International values-based coaching methodology was introduced by senior lecturers at the University of Brighton, the U.K. 50 volunteers from various universities and schools in Seoul took part in the training camp and were awarded certificates for their active participation. Especially, 50 children from various schools were invited and given some basic and fun activities to mingle with each other and resource persons. After each of the activities, the children were given opportunity to consider what they have learned from the wide range of activities associated with peace and how they would apply this concept or skill in a practical setting.

As a graduate student of sport management at Seoul National University, it was praiseworthy to participate in such training camp. They learned how an activity transforms to a value which helps them to promote mutual understanding in various communities and realized that sport increases the possibility to connect all community people together. Nicholas Chipeta said “The Football 4 Peace training camp provided an opportunity for me to recall the importance of values-based coaching. The training camp was the driving motivation in me to pay much attention to values-based coaching. I believe that this methodology has great power to make better individuals in the society”
