In the vibrant and fresh atmosphere of Seoul, my life has been nothing short of fascinating and fast-paced. I am grateful for an enriching six months at Seoul National University, recounting a journey brimming with knowledge, new invaluable friendships, exploration of remarkable places, and the acquisition of a new language. However, I must admit that learning Korean has not been a walk in the park but the experience has been quite compelling – as I continue to challenge myself to get better at it. Amidst this rapid-paced life, I find beauty in the challenges of adapting to Korean culture, relishing local dishes especially Korean BBQ, and mastering the art of using chopsticks.
Beyond academics, my experience as a member of the SNU Rugby team delves into the camaraderie and unparalleled brotherhood within the group. As a new fellow, I was warmly welcomed and instantly felt a sense of belonging. I applaud the team’s unwavering support on and off the field, where victories are not only celebrated but contribute to a collective sense of achievement and unity. Unfortunately, there’s not much activity at the moment since we are in the winter season. Nonetheless, I eagerly look forward to continuing my journey with the boys, clad in white or black – running on the field and creating unforgettable memories with my teammates.
2024 is here and it has already come in hot. As other students are on winter break, DTM students are busy with thesis workshops and special lectures. Even one of the professors mentioned that DTM is a special program and emphasized the need to maintain standards, explaining why students must begin preparing for their thesis at an early stage. He even jokingly said that there’s no winter break for DTM students. Haha! Regardless, I see this as an opportunity for both personal and academic growth. The Spring semester is also fast approaching and I am excited about the new modules we are going to cover. Despite the expected busy schedule, I am ready for the adventures that await me.
So far, the DTM program has been a captivating experience marked by intense classes, special lectures, field trips, and sports facility tours. The diversity within the DTM class has fostered rich discussions and a holistic understanding of various topics in sports. Its contribution to a vibrant learning environment that prepares us for life in today’s globalized world remains peerless. I must also commend the professors for their invaluable insights on the various subject areas. Their expertise and guidance have greatly enhanced my learning experience and deepened my understanding of the material. I am also, without a doubt, very impressed with the state-of-the-art sports facilities, nationwide – most of which I have been to during the field trips. This goes to show the commitment that the Government of South Korea has towards the excellence and enrichment of athletes. Admirable!
All in all, the holistic approach to education in the DTM program is truly commendable, as it not only focuses on academic learning but also provides real-life experiences – and for that – I am very thrilled to have joined the DTM family.
As my journey in SNU’s DTM program and Seoul unfolds, it continues to become a testament to exploration, personal growth, and a deep appreciation for unique experiences. For now, I continue to be enthusiastic and have a good attitude towards the many adventures, opportunities and challenges that lay ahead.
