Dream Together Master Program launched an annual event “DTM Korean Speaking Contest” This contest is created for the DTM students to strengthen their Korean speaking capability as they have started their DTM program and are supported with Korean classed each semester.
The main theme of the contest was ‘My Korea’ with 3 sub-themes: K-Pop, K-Sport, and K-Drama. Each had to choose one or combine the topics together and come up with a performance up to 10 minutes.
The DTM Korean Speaking Contest had a total of 6 teams, each having one Korean DTM staff or student as a leader, and consisted of 3-4 members.
Team 1 (Taehoon Lee, DTM Staff) prepared a presentation about Korean Football history and famous Korean players. In addition, they talked about why Korean Family Names were very similar or the same (Lee, Kim, Choi, Park etc).
Team 2 (Sol Lip Kim, DTM Student) combined K-pop and K-drama as their performance and handled many famous Korean dramas such as Boys over Flowers, Guardian, Crash landing on you etc. Also, one of their team members sang some soundtracks for the dramas.
Team 3 (Haemin Choi, DTM Student) also created a performance combining Taekwondo and K-drama and also K-pop. They had a Jordanian members’ daughter who was learning Taekwondo in Jordan and did a short interview.
Team 4 (Bryce Oh, DTM Staff) did a role play on ordering in Korean restaurants and also creatively changed the lyrics to Dreamers by BTS Jung Kook and sang about the life of a DTM student.
Team 5 (Yohan Lee, DTM Staff) did a performance on the song Let it go-Frozen in Korean and danced to the song while singing it. They also had a Korean introduction part at the very beginning.
Team 6 (Chanhwi Park, DTM Staff) combined sports and K-pop blending it in as a podcast/radio session that Nashon (DTM student operating a Youtube channel “Side chat with Nashon”) actually does.
This was all the performance there was and as much as it was entertaining and required a lot of teamwork, it was also a time to revise the Korean they had learned from the previous semester.
