Not shaken by the pandemic, 8th batch Andres from Colombia continued to participate in triathlon sport events in Korea and abroad, continuing his personal and professional passion for triathlon.
Andres joined both the 2021 World Triathlon Cup Haeundae and Tongyeong in Korea as well as the 2021 World Triathlon and Paratriathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi in the UAE as a technical official.
The Championship Series allowed him to work with Elite Paratriathlon for the first time and granted him extra qualifications required to join the Olympic Games as a triathlon technical official in the future.
Andres was as a child introduced to triathlon by his parents and often worked as a volunteer to triathlon races where his father frequently participated. This early exposure allowed Andres to eventually become a national triathlon technical official.
Commenting on the difficulties in studying sport and sport management during COVID, Andres stated that he was able to “build a supportive network with all my classmates, making everything much easier. I know in a few years I’ll end up working somehow with some of them.” He continued, “My hope and desire are unshakable, and I will work hard to achieve my goals.”
Andres is currently one of the select few DTM interns at the Korea Anti-doping Agency (KADA) and hopes to build strong relations between Colombia and Korea through sport and use sport for development and peace.
