Recent DTM 8th Batch graduate Natashya from Indonesia a former national gold medalist in roller speed skating joined the Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization as a staff in the Secretary-General.
Natashya started her sport journey, following the footsteps of her older brother who was already a roller speed skater.
She recalled, “One day my brother went to compete in another city by plane, and I said to my mother that I wanted to be like my brother. I also wanted to compete in a sport by travelling on a plane to another city like him. Long story short, sometime later I went to compete in the national championship in Indonesia; yes, I went by plane where I won my first national gold medal.”
After she retired as an athlete in 2018, she studied sports coaching education for her bachelor’s and studied global sports management at DTM for her master’s.
“On this journey of self-discovery, I also experienced lost direction, insecurity, and felt different from my friends in general due to my academic status. I was late for 3 years for my bachelor’s due to my career as an athlete. However, besides being an athlete, it turns out that sport is very exciting for me, and I felt that my heart is there. I feel joyful when I talk about sports, especially sports in my country,” said Natashya, describing her decision to continue her career in sport.
For her last words, she commented, “I couldn’t be here without the role from DTM. I would like to express my gratitude to DTM. This program has changed my life; it’s not just about education thing but also life. Especially Prof. Joon-ho, KANG, the Director of DTM as well as my thesis advisor, I truly appreciate his help in this process. And for the reader, please keep going, just do what’s the best in front of you right now and trust the process.”
