DTM 7th batch student Dana Touran from Jordan was appointed as a member of the World Takewondo Development Committee on October 10, 2019.
Dana is Jordan’s first and only female Youth Olympic medalist to date as a Taekwondo athlete.
Her appointment came as a surprise to Dana, but the World Taekwondo Development Committee felt that she was fully qualified and consequently asked her to become a member due to her previous achievements especially as a female athlete in the Middle East as well as her current pursuit in preparing herself as a sport administrator by studying sport management at the Dream Together Master Program.
Dana explained, “I feel really honoured to serve my sport and take a managerial part in the decision-making role at this stage of my life.”
As a member of the development committee, Dana declared that her dream was to “benefit people and standout for athlete rights and woman in sports as well as to use sport for social responsibility and development,” especially as she considers herself lucky as female athlete.
Aside from holding regular meetings reviewing agendas, programs, and budgets as part of the development committee, Dana is currently researching on effective leadership for women sport managers as she is convicted that sport must be continually studied and used for social development.
“Sport means a lot to me. It unites people, cultures, and nations together. I can say it’s a life style, a way to empower people, to build characters, and to discover abilities. For me, it’s a second language we speak with those who are passionate in sport.”
