Kim, Wooram
Korea
Staff, President Office, World Taekwondo Headquarters
3rd Batch Graduate
My name is Wooram Kim from South Korea. I am an alumnus from the 3rd batch of Dream Together Master (DTM) program, Seoul National University.
I used to be an elite soccer player in Korea at the age of 11 to 24. After retiring from my athlete career, I enrolled at the DTM master course from 2015 to 2017. After the course, I was offered a job at the Dept. of Competition Planning in FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Organizing Committee, and I am currently working for the President’s Office of World Taekwondo (WT) Headquarters in Seoul which is an International Federation under the IOC.
Please describe your responsibilities and roles as a Staff of President office at World Taekwondo.
Prior to my transfer to the President Office, I had worked in the Communication Department of WT. My job profile included drafting and distribution of press releases both nationally and internationally, managing the WT official website as well as working on the WT annual magazine. Currently, I do both communication tasks as well as assisting the President of WT in managing his schedule, invitation of guests or accompanying him for work schedules.
How has your DTM experience translated into growth in your career?
First of all, the work places that I used to work for and am working now, FIFA U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee and World Taekwondo, are both international organizations. Thus, the past experience of studying with students from all over the world is really helpful for me to get a job and get acquainted at work place. Also, the lecture materials given by professors that I still have a look at is enormously useful to think deep and broaden my horizon, and a lot of group work that I enjoyed during the course led me to perform well in my work place.

Did you have a favorite professor or course?
In particular, I was impressed by two modules, Sport Marketing and Sport Governance. I learned Sport Marketing by Dr. Kang in a practical and easy way to understand. Thus, I understood what Sport Marketing is and how sport marketing has developed so far. Also, Sport Governance by Dr. Borja Garcia was very practical, and he offered valuable insights into sports systems. The knowledge that I gained was instrumental in writing my thesis.
What advice would you give to a new student coming into the Dream Together Master program at Seoul National University?
I would say that it is important to understand diverse cultures and different thoughts and to get along with all the colleagues. Throughout the course, I learned not only academic knowledge but also how to cooperate with others. Thus, my humble advice to a new student is to learn from harmonious relationships with your colleges, which will be lessons for life.
