As a former professional volleyball player and Digital Media Coordinator with the African Volleyball Confederation, I’ve always been passionate about using sports as a tool for positive change. My name is Sara Moamen Abdelsamie, and my journey has taken me from the volleyball court to the boardrooms of some of Egypt’s most distinguished entities.
My current focus is on a project close to my heart called Alhalimun. It’s a social business sport project aimed at supporting refugees in Egypt, promoting equality, integrity, and diversity through sports. We aim to empower refugee children and youth by developing their life skills, providing education, integration, and socialization opportunities.
Winning the DTM Contest Project Proposal first place was a significant milestone for Alhalimun. It provided validation for our vision and a platform to bring it to life. My time in Korea as part of the DTM program was nothing short of amazing. The roundtable discussions were vibrant, the forums resonated with my project, and the experiences, from lectures to street food adventures, were enriching.
My advice to current DTM students is simple: soak in every moment in Korea while putting in the hard work. South Korea’s culture is fascinating, and the opportunities it offers are immense. Take advantage of them all.
Since completing the DTM program, I’ve been honored to become an IOC Young Leader. This opportunity has propelled me forward in my mission by leaps and bounds. The skills and connections I gained during the DTM program have been invaluable in realizing my goals.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about launching Alhalimun and making a positive impact on refugee children and youth. Sports have the power to transform lives, and I’m committed to harnessing that power for the betterment of society.
In conclusion, my journey underscores the transformative potential of sports in promoting equality and integration. With dedication and passion, I believe we can create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
