Korean history begins with the founding of Gojoseon in BC 2333. Then three kingdoms (Gogurueo, Baekje, Silla) follows the history. Every military man had to attend the horseback archery and shoot the scarecrow.

From Muyedobotongji(무예도보통지 1790) which is a comprehensive illustrated manual of martial arts and Korean games like ssireum(씨름) and swing(그네뛰기), Physical Education of Korea officially announced in February 1895 by King Gojong(1852-1919).

Eventhough after independence of Korea, South Korea was controlled by US military government regime. Korea didn’t stop to develop, one of the effort was Korea Sports Council trying to join IOC. Finally, on 1947 KOC was approved by IOC. It was the only one case that IOC apporved a nation officially not exist because officially the Rep. of Korea was born on August 15th, 1948.
